Benefits and Issues:

By “garment of fame” is meant both very expensive clothing, such that people talk about it and his wealth and affluence become well-known, and also very shabby and worthless clothing, such that people consider him ascetic and his piety becomes famous among them.

The intention of the one who wears such clothing is that people, being overawed by his wealth, will honor him, or, considering him to have attained closeness to Allah, will bow their heads before him in reverence.
The punishment for this sin is that on the Day of Resurrection he will be given such a garment that, because of it, he will remain humiliated in the sight of everyone.
The torment of burning in Hell is in addition to this.
