1؎: How much the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) cared for following the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) even in the smallest of Sunnahs, that in whatever state and manner they saw him (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), they adopted that very manner and way for their entire lives. Praise be to their zeal, love, and adherence, and the perfection of faith is indeed that one follows the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in acts of worship and habits. In another narration, it is mentioned that the collar of the shirt of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would remain in the middle.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
(1) It is permissible to fasten buttons on the collar of a shirt.
(2) The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) may have opened the button of his collar due to some necessity (such as heat, etc.), but the elders, out of consideration for emulation, always kept their buttons open. If keeping the buttons open is done as an act of humility and in emulation of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), then it is recommended (mustahabb) and a source of reward. However, in some regions among us, people keep their collars open out of arrogance. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid resembling them.
