´It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took the hand of a leper and made him eat with him, and said:` “Eat, with trust in Allah and reliance upon Allah.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
The scholars say that the Prophet did this to show those who are strong in their faith and trust (tawakkul), and who endure disliked matters with patience and refer them to divine decree (qada wa qadar). That is why, for those who cannot be patient over disliked matters and feel fear regarding themselves, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: (Farr min al-majdhūm kamā tafirr min al-asad) — "Flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion." Thus, for such people, avoiding and keeping away from them is recommended (mustahabb), but not obligatory (wajib), and eating and drinking with them is to clarify its permissibility.

Note:
(In the chain of narration, Mufaddal Basri is a weak narrator.)

Benefits and Issues:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission.
However, it is permissible for a person of faith and conviction to eat together with a sick person, and in a Muslim household and society, it is forbidden to completely ostracize a patient like the non-Muslims, especially the Hindus, do.
