Hadith 3528

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَة , وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ الرَّقِّيُّ , وَسَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ , قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ , عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ , عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَنْفُثُ فِي الرُّقْيَةِ " .
It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to blow when performing Ruqyah.

Brief Explanation
1؎: That is, he would recite the supplication and then blow over himself, or he would recite over another and blow upon them. From this hadith, it is also understood that incantation (ruqyah) and blowing (upon someone) is permissible, provided that it is done with supplications established from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Benefits and Issues:
(Nafth)
By nafth is meant such a blowing in which there is a slight admixture of saliva. After reciting the prescribed supplications (masnun du‘a), one should blow upon the patient in this manner.
