Hadith 3523

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ الصَّوَّافُ , حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ , عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ , عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ , أَنَّ جِبْرَائِيلَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ , اشْتَكَيْتَ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " , قَالَ : " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيكَ , مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ أَوْ حَاسِدٍ , اللَّهُ يَشْفِيكَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that Jibra’il came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:` “O Muhammad, you are ill. He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shay’in yu’dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin aw hasidin. Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika (In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you. In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you).

Benefits and Issues:

If the patient is asked, he may say,
“I am ill,”
and he can mention the details of his ailment to the physician.
This is not contrary to patience and acceptance (rida), nor is it considered as complaining against Allah.


The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was human.
Just as other human conditions befell him, he also experienced illness.
From this, the ummah learned the lesson of patience, turning to Allah, steadfastness, and, while believing in divine decree (qadar), also learned the method of taking appropriate measures (tadbir).


Health and well-being are blessings from Allah; therefore, one should supplicate for them so that, by benefiting from them, one can perform as many righteous deeds as possible.


A person can be affected by another’s envy (hasad) and the evil eye (nazar).
