Hadith Commentary:
This hadith refutes those who deny the evil eye (nazar bad). Allah has placed great effect in the human gaze, as is being proven by observation. The foundation of the science of mesmerism is also solely upon the effect of the human gaze.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Psychologists state that a person can very quickly influence others through his intention, desire, and attention.
In the case of the evil eye (nazar), when someone sees another’s virtue, a feeling of envy arises in certain souls, and if this is intense, it can have harmful effects on the other person.
Generally, the virtues of others are seen with the eyes, and as soon as they are seen, the feeling of envy arises; for this reason, it is referred to as being affected by the evil eye.
If the effects of the evil eye on a person are severe, the prescribed remedy is that the person who cast the evil eye should perform ablution (wudu), and the part of the waistcloth (tehband, izar, etc.) that touches the back should be washed, then this used water should be poured over the affected person.
(Fath al-Bari: 10/251) (2)
This hadith refutes those who claim that the evil eye has no reality. Allah, the Exalted, has placed great influence in the human gaze; even the foundation of mesmerism is based on the influence of the human gaze.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: According to Imam Mazari, it is established according to the majority of scholars that the evil eye (nazar bad) is real, in that Allah has placed such a flame and poison in the eyes of some people that when they look intently at something, with Allah’s permission, harm can be caused to that thing. Allah the Exalted has placed special properties and effects in certain things, which are created by Allah Himself. These things themselves have no independent role in this matter.
