Hadith 3487

´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:` “O Nafi’! The blood is boiling in me, find me a cupper, but let it be someone gentle if you can, not an old man or a young boy. For I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘Cupping on an empty stomach is better, and in it there is healing and blessing, and it increases one’s intellect and memory. So have yourselves cupped for the blessing of Allah on Thursdays, and avoid cupping on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Have yourselves cupped on Mondays and Tuesdays, for that is the day on which Allah relieved Ayyub of Calamity, and He inflicted calamity upon him on a Wednesday, and leprosy and leucoderma only appear on Wednesdays, or on the night of Wednesday.”

Benefits and Issues:

Our esteemed researcher has declared both of the aforementioned narrations to be weak in terms of their chain of transmission.
However, other scholars have graded them as hasan (good) on the basis of corroborating reports and supporting evidences.
According to our understanding, both of these narrations reach the level of hasan due to corroborating reports and supporting evidences.
Just as Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah and Shaykh Mahmood Muhammad Mahmood Hasan Nassar rahimahullah have also graded them as hasan on the basis of corroborating reports and supporting evidences.
And Allah knows best.
For further details, see: (Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah by al-Albani, no. 766, and Sunan Ibn Majah with the verification of Mahmood Muhammad Mahmood Hasan Nassar, nos. 3487, 3488)
It is appropriate to seek the service of a skilled person for cupping (hijamah).
Similarly, for the treatment of other illnesses, one should consult a skilled and knowledgeable physician.

One should have faith in the effect of the days of the week as mentioned in the hadith.
It is possible that its wisdom will become apparent in the future.

A young person is strong.
He can pull well and with ease.
Whereas a child, due to lack of strength and skill, and an old person, due to lack of strength, cannot perform this task as well or as thoroughly.

Getting cupping (hijamah) done on an empty stomach is more beneficial.

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are suitable days for cupping (hijamah).
It is permissible to get cupping done on Sunday.
However, one should not deliberately choose Sunday for cupping.
If, due to the severity of illness, cupping is done on that day upon the advice of a physician, then there is no harm.

Among Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, whichever day coincides with the 17th, 19th, or 21st of the lunar month, it is better to get cupping (hijamah) done on that day.

It is necessary to avoid getting cupping (hijamah) done on Wednesday.
