Hadith 3486

´It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “Whoever wants to be cupped, let him seek out the seventeenth, nineteenth or twenty-first (of the month); and let none of you allow his blood to rage so that it kills him.”

Brief Explanation
1؎: Abu Dawud narrated from Kabshah that her father used to prohibit cupping (hijamah) on Tuesday and used to say that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "On Tuesday there is an hour in which blood does not stop (flowing), and Tuesday is the day of blood." Further, in the hadith of Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma), it is mentioned: "Have cupping done on Monday and Tuesday." Thus, there appears to be a contradiction between the two. The answer given is that in the hadith of Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma), the Tuesday intended is the one that falls on the seventeenth date of the month, because in Tabarani it is narrated marfu‘an from Ma‘qil bin Yasar (radi Allahu anhu) that whoever has cupping done on Tuesday that coincides with the seventeenth date, it will be a cure for him for a whole year. And in the hadith of Kabshah, the Tuesday intended is any Tuesday that falls on a date other than the seventeenth. And in Sunan Abi Dawud, it is narrated marfu‘an from Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu): "Whoever has cupping done on the seventeenth, or nineteenth, or twenty-first (of the month), he will be cured of every illness."

The third week of the lunar month is more suitable for cupping (hijamah).
