Benefits and Issues:
➊
The aforementioned narration has been declared authentic in terms of its chain of transmission and authoritative by our esteemed researcher. Other scholars have also considered its chain to be authentic. However, due to confusion in the text, they have deemed it weak, because the narrator of the hadith, Mishma'il, sometimes uses the word "rock" (sakhrah) and at other times "tree" (shajarah) when narrating, which indicates that the narrator does not remember the correct wording. This is a kind of hesitation and doubt that is called "idtirab" (confusion/disorder). And it indicates that the hadith is weak and not authoritative. Therefore, despite the chain of this narration being authentic, it is neither actionable nor authoritative. However, the mention of the Ajwah (dates) being from Paradise is found in other authentic ahadith. For further details, see: (Sunan Ibn Majah, edited by Dr. Bashar Awwad, no. 3456, and Irwa' al-Ghalil by al-Albani, no. 2696).
➌
Some commentators state that the "rock" (sakhrah) refers to that boulder which is in the city of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) in Masjid al-Aqsa. Nowadays, a large dome has been built over this rock.
