´It was narrated that Suhaib said:` “I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and in front of him there were some bread and dates. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Come and eat.’ So I started to eat some of the dates. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Are you eating dates when you have an inflammation in your eye?’ I said: ‘I am chewing from the other side.’ And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) smiled.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ When food is offered to a guest, he should not act with unnecessary formality; he should accept it. However, if he has no need for it, that is another matter.
➋ A sick person should exercise caution in eating and drinking.
➌ It is permissible to make a humorous remark even with a respected personality, provided that the limits of etiquette and respect are not transgressed.
