Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Wine, no matter what it is made from, is forbidden.
➋
The reason for the prohibition of wine is its intoxicating nature. Therefore, if intoxication is caused by anything edible, or by an injection of something, or by inhaling something, then the use of all such things in this manner is also forbidden and punishable.
➌
Administering chloroform for anesthesia during operations, etc., does not fall under the ruling of causing intoxication, because there is a difference between unconsciousness and intoxication (being in a state of drunkenness). However, this too is only permissible at the time of necessity for the purpose of treatment. It is not permissible to render oneself unconscious without necessity.
