´It was narrated that Abu Darda’ said:` ‘My close friend (ﷺ) advised me: ‘Do not drink wine, for it is the key to all evils.’”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ By khamr (wine), every intoxicating substance is meant. (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3390)
➋ The prohibition of wine is established from the Noble Qur’an. In the Noble Qur’an, it has been declared unlawful and a satanic act. (Al-Ma’idah 5:90)
➌ Intellect (‘aql) is such a great blessing from Allah that through it, a person can strive to attain every good in this world and the Hereafter. Deliberately attempting to deprive oneself of this blessing is a great act of ingratitude.
➍ Through intellect, a person avoids every sin and harmful thing and action. After consuming intoxicants, he loses the ability to distinguish between good and bad for himself. In this state, he can commit every sin.
