´‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir Al-Juhani said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his Companions: ‘Do not eat onions,’ then he said in a low voice: ‘Raw.’”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
The mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission; however, from previous authentic ahadith it is clear that eating raw onion when going to the mosque is impermissible, while eating it cooked is permissible.
Most likely for this reason, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has declared the rest of the narration to be authentic except for the phrase (ثُمَّ قَالَ كَلِمَةً خَفِيَّةً النِّيء) — "then he quietly said: do not eat it raw."
