Hadith 3365

´It was narrated from Jabir that a group of people came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and he noticed the smell of leeks coming from them. He said:` “Did I not forbid you to eat these vegetables? For the angels are offended by that which offends people.”

Benefits and Issues:

Gandana is a thing similar to onion, which has an odor like that of onion.

The angels dislike bad odors and feel discomfort from them. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would avoid such things so that Jibril (alayhis salam) would not be displeased.

A Muslim should, out of respect for the angels, avoid eating things with unpleasant odors, refrain from using obscene language, and abstain from nudity and indecent actions.

Garlic, onion, and gandana are not unlawful (haram); however, if one needs to use them, they should be cooked, or afterward, something should be eaten that removes the odor from the mouth.
