Hadith 3345

´It was narrated that ‘Aishah said:` “When the Prophet (ﷺ) passed away, there was nothing in my house that any living soul could eat, except a little bit of barley on a shelf of mine. I ate it for a long time, then I weighed it and soon it was all gone.”

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
The explanation of "taand" («رف») has been given by Imam Ibn Athir rahimahullah as follows:
A piece of wood elevated from the ground at the side of a wall, upon which things are placed for safekeeping.

(2)
If food, drink, or other commonly used items are kept in the house without being measured or weighed, then there is blessing (barakah) in them.

(3)
The Mother of the Believers (Umm al-Mu’minin) had what appeared to be a small amount of leftovers, and she thought they would be finished in a single day. By measuring them, it became clear that they could be used for several days; accordingly, after that many days had passed, they were finished.
