Hadith 3341

´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:` “One day, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘I wish that we had some white bread made of brown wheat, softened with ghee, that we could eat.’ A man from among the Ansar heard that, so he took some (of that food) and brought it to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Where was this ghee kept?’ He said: ‘In a container made of mastigure skin.’ And he refused to eat it.”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
(1)
«ملبقة» means something that has been thoroughly mixed and unified. (Muhammad Abdul Baqi, Hashiyah Sunan Ibn Majah)
That is, the clarified butter (ghee) was mixed into the bread in such a way that it became blended together; therefore, we have translated it as "paratha" instead of "cheeri roti."

(2)
«عکة» refers to a round vessel made of leather in which ghee or honey is kept. (Al-Nihayah, root: ع ك ك)

(3)
«ضب» is translated as "monitor lizard" or "sand lizard."
The second meaning appears to be more correct.
And Allah knows best.

Benefits and Issues:
Benefit: This narration is weak in its chain of transmission.
And desiring such things was contrary to the temperament of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
However, if more than one type of food is available at a time, there is absolutely no fault in eating them.
The fundamental requirement is that the things should be lawful (halal) and pure (tayyib).
Also, there should not be extravagance.
This will be mentioned in the upcoming hadith 3835 and those that follow.
Imam Bukhari has also mentioned this narration.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Ja'far (radi Allahu anhu) narrated that I saw the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) eating fresh dates with cucumber.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Al-At'imah, Chapter: Combining two types or two foods at once, Hadith: 5449) In this way, tharid and hais are also combinations of several types of foods, which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) used to eat.
