Hadith 3285

´It was narrated from Sahl bin Mu’adh bin Anas Al-Juhani, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “Whoever eats food and said: Al- hamdu lillahil-ladhi at’amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin (Praise is to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part), - his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Giving thanks to Allah for His blessings is a great virtue.

➋ Gratitude is a means for the forgiveness of sins.

➌ Although a person does make efforts and uses planning to obtain sustenance to a certain extent, making these efforts successful and granting the understanding for planning is also Allah’s grace and is only through His enabling.

Explanation:
1:
All praise is due to Allah who has fed us this food and granted it to us,
without any effort, striving, or strength and power from my side.
Then his previous sins will be forgiven.

Note:
(In Sunan Abi Dawud:
"and what is to come" (wa ma ta’akhkhar) is mentioned at the end,
which is not correct.)

Benefits and Issues:

This hadith is of hasan (good) grade.
However, it does not contain the words “past sins.”

➋ Eating food or wearing clothes while reciting the above-mentioned or other Sunnah supplications is an extremely recommended (mustahabb) act. Through this, these blessings become full of barakah (blessing) for a person, and the servant is protected from their harm. In fact, he becomes deserving of further divine favors.
Because Allah the Exalted has said: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.”
