Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ In the hadith, the following creatures are described as “fasiq” (vicious or harmful): the snake, the scorpion, the rat, the kite (a type of bird of prey), and the biting dog. (Sahih Muslim, Chapter: What is recommended for the muhrim and others to kill of vermin in the sacred and non-sacred precincts, Hadith: 1198)
➋ The crow referred to here is the one that has white coloring on its back and belly. In the hadith, it is called “al-ghurab al-abqa‘.” (Sahih Muslim, reference as above)
➌ Those creatures which have been commanded to be killed are unlawful (haram), because if they were lawful (halal), they would be slaughtered (dhabh) rather than simply killed.
