Hadith 3213

´It was narrated that ‘Adi bin Hatim said:` “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what if I shoot the game but it vanishes at night?’ He said: ‘If you find your arrow in it and you do not find anything else, then eat it.’”

Benefits and Issues:

The presence of one’s own arrow in the lifeless game proves that it died due to that very arrow.
Since the takbir was pronounced at the time of shooting the arrow, it is therefore considered as if it has been slaughtered (i.e., it takes the ruling of a slaughtered animal).

The meaning of not finding anything besides the arrow is that one is certain that there is no other cause of death. For example:
If the animal is found drowned in water, then it is possible that it did not die from the arrow but died from drowning.
Similarly, if there are signs that a predatory animal has eaten from it, then it is possible that the game died due to that predator and not from the arrow.
Therefore, one should avoid such doubtful game.
