Hadith 3184

´It was narrated from Abu ‘Ushara’ that his father said:` “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, should slaughtering only be done in the throat or upper chest?’ He said: ‘If you stab it in the thigh that will suffice you.’”

Benefits and Issues:
Although the chain of narration of this report is weak,
however, in a state of compulsion when there is no opportunity for proper slaughter,
and blood flows from any place,
then that will be considered as slaughter,
just as it is in the case of hunting.

Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
The fundamental principle is that slaughtering should be done at the throat and piercing (nahr) at the pit of the chest, because in this manner the blood will flow out swiftly. There are major veins located here. However, sometimes necessity arises, as has been mentioned in the chapter, so wherever a wound can be inflicted to let the blood flow out, it should be done. This is permissible, but only in times of necessity.
