Hadith 3179

´It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed by a boy who was skinning a sheep. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him:` “Step aside and I will show you how.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) put his hand between the skin and the flesh, and thrust his arm in until it disappeared up to the armpit, and said: “O boy, this is how you skin it.” Then he went and led the people in prayer and did not perform Wudu’.

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

➊ Presenting a practical example is the best method for teaching any task.

➋ If a beginner is not performing a task properly, elders should not scold or rebuke him; rather, they should demonstrate the task themselves and provide appropriate guidance.

➌ Removing the skin or cutting the meat does not break ablution (wudu).

➍ If, while going to prayer, a small task is performed along the way that does not cause a delay in the prayer, there is no harm in it.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) says that I have been sent as a “teacher.” One aspect of your (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) teaching, as mentioned above, is that work should be carried out in an excellent and beautiful manner.
➋ The greasiness of fat, the particular smell of meat, and its blood coming into contact do not affect purity (taharah) in any way.
➌ A person should not become overly delicate and sensitive to the extent that such tasks necessitate ritual bath (ghusl) or changing clothes. Rather, in daily life, one should adopt simplicity instead of unnecessary formalities.
