´It was narrated from Nubaishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “I used to forbid you to store the meat of the sacrifices for more than three days, but (now) eat some and store some.”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ When using the meat of the sacrifice (qurbani), consideration should be given to the circumstances of others. If there are many people in need, it should be distributed among them. Only a small portion should be kept for oneself. If the general public is well-off, then one may keep as much as desired.
➋ Guidance for various circumstances is present in the Shariah. The imam should state the rulings of the Shariah according to the prevailing circumstances.
➌ It is commonly believed among the public that the meat of the sacrifice should be divided into three portions: one for the household, one for relatives, and one for the poor and needy. Some people try to divide it into exactly three equal parts. This is not correct; rather, after keeping a small amount as needed at home, the rest should be distributed among others. In this, poor relatives or poor people in the neighborhood should be given greater importance.

Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) From this hadith, the ruling is established that the meat of the sacrifice (qurbani) can be stored.
(2) Regarding the days of Tashreeq, the ruling is also clarified that these are days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah (dhikr), and therefore, just like on the days of Eid, fasting during these days is forbidden and impermissible.
(3) In the aforementioned ahadith, there is a complete clarification of the issue that the prohibition applies in the case where such actions are done seeking the pleasure and approval of false deities and other than Allah, or when it is specified for a particular time, just as those people used to slaughter animals in the early days of the month of Rajab. However, when the slaughtering of an animal is done seeking the pleasure of Allah alone, and there is no specification of a particular day, month, or time, then not only is it permissible, but it is also recommended (mustahabb).
(4) From this blessed hadith, it is also understood that small and newborn animals should not be slaughtered; rather, they should be raised and nurtured until their meat becomes mature and suitable for eating, and then they should be slaughtered and their meat given in charity. And Allah knows best.
