Hadith 3057

´It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, when he was atop his camel with the clipped ears in ‘Arafat: ‘Do you know what day this is, what month this is and what land this is?’ They said: ‘This is a sacred land, a sacred month and a sacred day.’ He said: ‘Your wealth and your blood are sacred to you as this month of yours, in this land of yours, on this day of yours. I will reach the Cistern (Hawd) before you, and I will be proud of your great numbers before the nations, so do not blacken my face (i.e., cause me to be ashamed). I will rescue some people, and some people will be taken away from me. I will say: “O Lord, my companions!” and He will say: “You do not know what innovations they introduced after you were gone.’”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

➊ Just as the city of Makkah al-Mukarramah is worthy of respect, likewise all those areas connected to the performance of Hajj are also worthy of respect.

➋ By Allah’s command, certain months are also worthy of respect; therefore, they are called the sacred months (ash-hur al-hurum). These are four months: Dhu al-Qa’dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab. Especially, the day of Hajj, the Day of ‘Arafah (the ninth of Dhu al-Hijjah), holds great sanctity.

➌ Matters can be presented to the audience in the form of a question in order to first instill them in their minds. If the audience already knows something, its importance can be impressed upon them by asking about it in the form of a question.

➍ Through analogy and parable, scholarly issues can be explained well and firmly established in the mind.

➎ On the Day of Resurrection, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will be granted the Hawd al-Kawthar, from which those members of his Ummah will drink who acted upon the Prophetic Sunnah during their lives.

➏ To invent innovations (bid‘ah) and act upon them is a cause for being deprived of the water of Hawd al-Kawthar.

➐ A large number of followers in the Ummah is, according to the Shari‘ah, desirable. However, it is also necessary that, by providing proper upbringing to children according to Islamic teachings and guidance, they be made such Muslims that seeing them on the Day of Resurrection will bring joy to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

➑ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will intercede for the sinners of the Ummah and will have them removed from Hell.

➒ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will be prevented from interceding for certain people. Such people will remain in Hell for a long time. If they committed major shirk (shirk akbar) or major disbelief (kufr akbar), they will remain in Hell forever. May Allah protect us.

➓ Just as it is forbidden to kill a Muslim or to unlawfully seize his wealth, likewise it is also forbidden to dishonor him or to attempt to humiliate him.

⓫ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) fulfilled the office of Prophethood as it was due. Now, if anyone chooses misguidance, he himself is responsible. The name of the Messenger of Allah’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) she-camel was ‘Adba’ (the slit-eared). However, her ears were not actually slit.
