Commentary:
(1)
The meaning of fabricating lies is to invent something from oneself and attribute it to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and present it as a hadith. This is a very grave sin.

(2)
From this, the hadith scholars (muhaddithin) have derived the ruling that if there is ever a need to narrate a weak (da'if) hadith, the listeners must be informed that this hadith is weak. This inference is not correct, because regarding a weak hadith, there is no certainty that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam actually said it, or whether the narrator mistakenly reported it in this way.

(3)
The meaning of "making a place in the Fire of Hell" is that he will certainly enter Hell. He should be convinced that, due to this sin, a place in Hell has already been designated for him. However, if he repents and informs everyone that such-and-such hadiths he narrated were fabricated, then it can be hoped that his sin will be forgiven. Nevertheless, even after this, the hadith scholars do not accept his narrations.

(4)
This hadith is mutawatir (mass-transmitted). Hafiz Ibn Salah rahimahullah has stated that it has been narrated by sixty-two companions radi Allahu anhum, among whom are also included the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise (asharah mubashsharah).

Explanation:
1:
The meaning is that attributing a false statement to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is a grave sin.
Therefore, after knowing that a narration is weak (da'if) or fabricated (mawdu'), one should refrain from narrating it.
It should also be understood that whether a false statement is attributed to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) by fabricating a lie against him or for him (i.e., supposedly in his favor), in both cases it is a grave sin.
This refutes the false ideas of those who consider it permissible to fabricate hadiths in matters of virtues (fada'il) for the sake of encouraging worship.
May Allah, Lord of all the worlds, protect us from such a tribulation.
Ameen.
