Commentary:
Sprinkling means to sprinkle drops of water on the lower garment after ablution (wudu).
The apparent wisdom behind this is the removal of doubts (waswasah) regarding impurity.
And Allah knows best.
This narration is similar in meaning to authentic narrations; therefore, the scholars have classified it as hasan or sahih li-ghayrihi. See: (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah: 3/268)

This hadith [54] is weak; however, the hadith of Sunan Abi Dawud, hadith [52], carries the same meaning. For this reason, according to some, it is considered authentic.
