A similar hadith is also narrated from Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) through this chain.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Performing Hajj and Umrah consecutively means that if Hajj is performed, then after it Umrah should also be performed. And if the opportunity for Umrah arises, one should strive to perform Hajj as well. It can also mean that Hajj and Umrah should be performed repeatedly; whenever the opportunity for Hajj arises, it should be performed, and whenever the opportunity for Umrah arises, Umrah should be performed.
➋ Spending in the way of Allah brings blessing to one’s wealth. The expenses of Umrah are also in the way of Allah; therefore, this too increases one’s wealth and delivers one from poverty and destitution.
➌ Hajj is a fundamental pillar of Islam, and Umrah is also a type of Hajj. That is why it is called the “lesser Hajj” (Hajj Asghar). The reward for both is very great, and they become a means for forgiveness from many sins.

Benefit:
➊ In this hadith, encouragement is given for performing Hajj and Umrah continuously; if someone has performed Umrah, then he should perform Hajj, and if someone has performed Hajj, then he should perform Umrah. Although Umrah and Hajj are obligatory only once in a lifetime, spending one’s wealth on the journey of Hajj and Umrah is an act of great significance. Therefore, throughout one’s life, whenever the opportunity arises, one should continue to perform Hajj or Umrah. Some people only perform Umrah and continue to do so many times in their lives but do not perform Hajj. This is incorrect. Whoever is able to perform Umrah multiple times, it is as if he also has the means for Hajj, so he should fulfill the obligation of Hajj at the earliest opportunity.
➋ Spending in the way of Allah brings blessing to one’s wealth. The expenses of Hajj and Umrah are also in the way of Allah. Therefore, this too increases wealth, and one is saved from poverty and destitution.
