´It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “Among those in charge of you, after I am gone, will be men who extinguish the Sunnah and follow innovation. They will delay the prayer from its proper time.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, if I live to see them, what should I do?” He said: “You ask me, O Ibn ‘Abd, what you should do? There is no obedience to one who disobeys Allah.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊
To abandon the Sunnah and act upon innovations (bid‘ah) is misguidance.
➋
If members of the government promote innovations, the subjects should not cooperate with them in this matter.
Scholars should refute innovations and acquaint people with the Sunnah, and the general public should avoid innovations and remain steadfast in practicing the Sunnah.
➌
The way of the true scholars (‘ulama’ al-haqq) in every era has been that, in the face of governmental misguidance, they remain steadfast in practicing and propagating the Sunnah.
They proclaim the truth without being affected by any kind of hardship, enticement, or intimidation—just as Imam Malik rahimahullah demonstrated steadfastness in the issue of forced divorce, and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahimahullah did so in the issue of the creation of the Qur’an.
