´‘Umair, the freed slave of Aabi Lahm – Waki’ said; - “He used to not eat meat” – said:` “I fought alongside my master on the Day of Khaibar, and I was a slave. I was not given anything from the spoils of war but I was given from the least of the utensils (goods) a sword, which I dragged when I put it around my waist.”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊
The meaning of "Abi al-Lahm" is one who refrains from eating meat.
He became famous by this name because, even before the advent of Islam, he would not eat meat slaughtered in the name of anyone other than Allah.
His name is reported as Khalaf. (Taqreeb al-Tahdheeb)
➋
Minor boys and slaves can also participate in jihad.
➌
Those individuals who are not given an allotted share from the spoils of war (maal-e-ghanīmah) should still be given some reward.
➍
The reason the sword would touch the ground was that the stature of Hazrat Umair radi Allahu anhu was short due to his young age.
