Hadith 2828

´It was narrated that Bara’ bin ‘Azib said:` “We were talking about how, on the Day of Badr, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) numbered three hundred ten and something, the same number as the Companions of (Talut) who crossed the river with him, and no one crossed the river with him but a believer.”

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
(1)
According to the well-known opinion, the number of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) who participated in the battle was three hundred and thirteen, among whom 231 were Ansari warriors.

(a)
From the tribe of Aws there were 61, and from the tribe of Khazraj there were 170.
According to the well-known opinion, the number of Muhajirun was 82.
Some scholars have mentioned it as 83 or 82.
For this reason, the total number of the army has also been mentioned as 314 or 317. See (Al-Raheeq Al-Makhtum, Mawlana Safiur Rahman Mubarakpuri rahimahullah)

(2)
The incident of Talut and his companions is described in detail in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 246 to 251.

(3)
Just as those who supported Talut were true believers, likewise the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) who participated in the Battle of Badr were complete believers,
and they were superior to the other Companions (radi Allahu anhum).
