Hadith 2755

´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “Going out in the morning in the cause of Allah, or in the evening, is more virtuous than the world and what is in it.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Although in Allah’s path (fi sabilillah) can refer to every good deed done with sincerity, in the Qur’an and Hadith this term is most often used in the sense of jihad.

➋ By (the world and whatever is in it), what is meant is all the wealth and treasures present in the world; that is, just as all of this is extremely beloved and valuable to a seeker of the world, in Allah’s sight jihad is even more beloved and valuable than that. It can also mean that in the view of every believer, jihad is more precious than all the treasures of the world—that is, the wealth of the world is perishable, whereas the reward of jihad is the blessings of Paradise, which are never-ending. Some scholars have explained that whatever reward there may be for spending all the treasures of the world in Allah’s path, even a short time spent in jihad brings greater reward than that. Whichever meaning is intended, the real purpose of the hadith is to establish the virtue of jihad and its immeasurable reward.
