Hadith 2727

´‘Umar bin Khattab said:` “There are three things, if the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had clarified them, that would have been dearer to me than the world and everything in it: a person who leaves behind no heir, usury, and the caliphate.”

Benefits and Issues:

The mentioned narration is weak as the scholars have stated; however, in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the mention of kalalah and usury (riba) from Umar ibn al-Khattab radi Allahu anhu is found, but not of the caliphate. Therefore, the mentioned narration is corroborated and supported regarding the two matters stated (kalalah and usury) by the narrations of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, from which it is understood that, except for the mention of "caliphate," the mentioned narration is actionable and authoritative.

The siblings of kalalah can be of three types:

(a)
Full siblings (haqiqi)

(b)
Siblings from the same father (allati)

(c)
Siblings from the same mother (akhyafi)

The ruling regarding the first two types of siblings has been stated in Surah al-Nisa, verse 176, and the ruling regarding the third type of siblings has been stated in Surah al-Nisa, verse 12.
