´'Abdullah bin Muhammed bin 'Aqil bin Abu Talib narrated from his father that his grandfather said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Mudd is sufficient for the ablution and a Sa' is sufficient for the bath.' A man said: 'It is not sufficient for us.'" He (the narrator) said: "It was sufficient for one who is better than you and had more hair" meaning the Prophet.
Explanation & Benefits

The meaning of this statement by Aqil (radi Allahu anhu) is that if the purpose of using more water is purification and cleanliness, then the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was fond of cleanliness.
If caution is intended, then the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was even more God-fearing.
If the thought is that there is more hair, then the hair of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was not less than yours either.
Therefore, the questioner's use of excessive water may be merely due to doubt and misgivings, or due to extravagance, and it is necessary to avoid this.
