Brief Explanation
1؎: That is, regarding worldly matters, because the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not leave behind any wealth in the world, and he said: Whatever I leave behind, after my wives’ maintenance and the wages of the worker, is charity. Subhan Allah, just as he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) came into this world pure, he departed from it in the same state. However, regarding religion, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did make bequests, as is mentioned in another hadith, that even at the time of his passing, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Take care of the prayer, and of slaves and maidservants. And in one narration, it is mentioned that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made a bequest to show hospitality to delegations. And in another narration, it is mentioned that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made a bequest to expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula. And it is impossible that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would encourage others, including the believers, to make bequests and not do so himself. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made a bequest to adhere to the Book of Allah, that is, the Qur’an, and to maintain love for the Ahl al-Bayt.

Commentary:
Benefits and Issues:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said regarding this:
“My heirs will not distribute dinars and dirhams.
After providing for my wives and the expenses of the worker, whatever remains will be charity.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Wills, Chapter: The Maintenance of the Trustee for the Endowment, Hadith: 2776)

Some people think that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) gave some special bequests to Ali (radi Allahu anhu), or appointed him specifically for the caliphate. This notion is completely incorrect, as Ali (radi Allahu anhu) himself has refuted it.

Benefits and Issues:
The bequest (wasiyyah) of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is established regarding matters of the Shari‘ah.
In particular, adherence to prayer, good treatment of slaves, expelling the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and good conduct with delegations, etc.
However, there was no bequest from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam regarding financial matters.
Because the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not leave behind any wealth.

Imam al-Nasa'i rahimahullah narrates this tradition from his two teachers, Ja'far ibn Muhammad and Ahmad ibn Yusuf. In the final sentence, he wishes to clarify that Ja'far ibn Muhammad, when narrating this tradition, does not mention the words [دِرْھُماً وَلاَ دِینَارًا], whereas Ahmad ibn Yusuf transmits these words. The sole purpose of Imam al-Nasa'i rahimahullah is to indicate the difference between the two narrations; this does not affect the authenticity of the narration in any way. Furthermore, Imam al-Nasa'i's teacher, Muhammad ibn Rafi', also narrates these words.
