Hadith 2672

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَوَّامِ الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَجْنِي نَفْسٌ عَلَى أُخْرَى " .
´It was narrated from 'Usamah bin Sharik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “No person will be punished because of another's crime.”

Benefits and Issues:


The punishment for a criminal act cannot be given to his father, son, brother, friend, or others.


It is religiously prohibited to put pressure on the relatives of a fugitive criminal in order to apprehend him.


It is permissible to apply reasonable pressure to a suspect in order to obtain a confession.


It is permissible to apply reasonable pressure to a suspect or criminal in order to obtain information about his accomplices, provided that there are such indications which demonstrate his being a suspect or criminal.
