Hadith 2629

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّهُ جَعَلَ الدِّيَةَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفًا " .
´It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that :` the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set the blood money at twelve thousand (Dirham).

(1) The authenticity of both of the aforementioned narrations as being marfu‘ (attributed directly to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is questionable. The preferred opinion is that this narration is mursal. However, regarding the twelve thousand dirhams, it is authentically reported that Umar radi Allahu anhu, after calculating the value of the camels, fixed the amount at twelve thousand dirhams. (2) The original blood money (diyah) is camels, the details of which have already been mentioned previously. If the diyah is to be given in gold, silver, or coins, then the value of camels with the specified characteristics must be given, which varies according to region and time.
