´It was narrated from Ibn`Abbas that `Umar bin Khattab said:` “I fear that after a long time has passed, some will say: 'I do not find (the sentence of) stoning in the Book of Allah (ﷺ),' and they will go astray by abandoning one of the obligations enjoined by Allah (SWT). Rather stoning is a must if a man is married (or previously married) and proof is established, or if pregnancy results or if he admits it. I have read it (in the Quran). “And if an old man and an old woman commit adultery, stone them both.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stoned (adulterers) and we stoned (them) after him.' ”

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Rajm means that if the perpetrator of adultery (zina), whether male or female, is married, then he or she is to be stoned to death.
➋
The ruling of rajm for the perpetrator of adultery was also present in previous revealed laws (shari‘ahs). Even in the current versions of the Bible, the punishment of death is prescribed for the adulterer. (See: Book of Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 10)
➌
In the Noble Qur’an, some verses or their rulings have been abrogated. In the hadith under discussion, the recitation of the verse is abrogated, but its ruling remains.
➍
The crime of adultery (zina) is established in three ways:
(1)
The testimony of four eye-witnesses.
(2)
By the perpetrator’s confession of the crime.
(3)
If an unmarried woman becomes pregnant;
however, an unmarried perpetrator will not be stoned, but rather will be given the punishment of one hundred lashes.
