Hadith 2546

´It was narrated from Ibn `Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “Whoever conceals the (hidden) fault of his Muslim brother, Allah (SWT) will conceal his faults on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever exposes the fault of his Muslim brother, Allah will expose his faults, until (so that) He shames him, due to it, in his (own) house.”

Benefits and Issues:

The aforementioned hadith has been declared weak in its chain of narration by our esteemed researcher, who stated that Hadith number: 2544 and 225 suffice in its place. Moreover, other scholars have also declared it authentic; therefore, despite the weakness in its chain, this narration is acceptable as evidence due to other supporting reports.

The meaning of "covering nakedness" can refer to its apparent sense—that is, if someone is in need of clothing, he should be clothed. It can also mean saving someone from disgrace: if one becomes aware of another's fault, instead of informing others, he should advise him privately so that he may desist.

Whoever tries to disgrace a Muslim ends up being disgraced himself.

Honor and disgrace are in the hands of Allah.
When disgracing someone, one should not think, "I do not have this fault, so I am safe from disgrace."
A person can, at any moment, fall prey to his own weakness or the whisperings of Shaytan and commit a sin; therefore, one should seek well-being ('afiyah) from Allah, the Exalted.
