Benefits and Issues:

The meaning of rahn (pledge) is to leave something of one’s own as a guarantee with someone in order to take a loan or buy something on credit from them.
It is permissible to take or give a loan in this manner when there is a need.

In the Noble Qur’an, it is stated:
﴿وَاِنْ كُنْتُمْ عَلٰى سَفَرٍ وَّلَمْ تَجِدُوْا كَاتِبًا فَرِهٰنٌ مَّقْبُوْضَةٌ﴾ ()
If you are on a journey and you do not find a scribe (to write down the transaction), then take a pledge that is held in possession.
From this, it apparently seems that the matter of rahn is specific to travel.
However, the hadith makes it clear that pledging (rahn) is also permissible in residence (i.e., when not traveling).

It is permissible to engage in transactions with non-Muslims.
This does not contradict the prohibition of having intimate friendship with them.

The wealth from spoils of war (ghanimah) and similar sources that would come to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), one-fifth of it was permitted for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to spend on his own needs. However, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would also spend this on the needs of the general Muslims, and for this reason, attention was not given to reclaiming the pledged armor.
And Allah knows best.
