Benefits and Issues:
➊
When demanding the repayment of a loan, if the debtor refuses to pay or makes excuses seeking further delay, it is natural to become angry. However, controlling one’s anger is a great virtue.
➋
‘Afaf (abstinence from sin or nobility) means that one should make the demand with gentleness and compassion.
One should not let the situation escalate to abuse or foul language.
One should only take that wealth which is lawful (halal) for him to take.
➌
The debtor should also, keeping in mind the favor of the creditor, speak in a good manner.
He should repay the loan on time.
If he is unable to do so, he should request further time and apologize.
➍ (Complete or incomplete ‘afaf)
If ‘afaf is made the attribute, then the meaning of its being complete or incomplete will be that even if anger arises, one should not exceed the limits. If one is unable to fully act upon ‘afaf, then he should observe it as much as possible.
He should observe the utmost respect for his Muslim brother.
