´It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Some people open the door to good and close the door to evil, and some people open the door to evil and close the door to good. Glad tidings to those in whose hands Allah places they keys to good, and woe to those in whose hands Allah places the keys to evil.'"

Commentary:
(1)
The meaning of a person being a key or a lock is that in his hand is the key to good or evil, by which he keeps opening its doors. Thus, the one who possesses the key to good is granted success (tawfiq) by Allah Ta'ala to bring as many people as possible towards goodness. Such a person is a lock for evil, meaning he closes the paths of sin and prevents people from it.
On the contrary, the person who becomes a companion of Satan becomes one who opens the doors of evil, through which many people go astray and walk the path to Hellfire. Such a person becomes a lock for goodness, meaning he closes the doors of goodness and prevents people from the straight path.
(2)
Calling towards goodness, cooperating in good deeds, and performing such actions that encourage people towards goodness is a great fortune.
Especially when that person also possesses authority and power.
On the contrary, calling towards evil, cooperating in sins, and trying to entice people towards sin is following Satan and a great misfortune. Such a person walks and leads others on the path to Hellfire.
When he attains authority and power, he becomes even more dangerous and a trial (fitnah) for the believers. Therefore, perpetual misfortune and destruction, that is, the punishment of Hellfire, becomes his destiny.
A‘adhana Allah minha (May Allah protect us from it).
