Hadith 2246

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ أَيُّوبَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شُمَاسَةَ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ بَاعَ مِنْ أَخِيهِ بَيْعًا فِيهِ عَيْبٌ إِلَّا بَيَّنَهُ لَهُ " .
´It was narrated that 'Uqbah bin 'Amir said:` "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to sell his brother goods in which there is a defect, without pointing that out to him."'

Brief Explanation
1؎: After the defect has been disclosed, if the buyer purchases the goods, then he will not have the right to return it. If the defect is not disclosed, then he will have the right; when the defect becomes known, he may return it.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Every Muslim should be a well-wisher for another Muslim.

➋ If there is any defect in a transaction, it should be disclosed; it is possible that for the purpose for which the buyer wants to purchase, that defect may not be significant.

➌ One should not demand the price of a superior item for something inferior.

➍ Disclosing defects is a part of honesty, and honesty is an important quality of a Muslim.
