Hadith 2245

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا عُهْدَةَ بَعْدَ أَرْبَعٍ " .
´It was narrated from 'Uqbah bin 'Amir that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "There is no contractual obligation after four (days)."

Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of the hadith is that if someone buys a slave, and then discovers a defect in the slave, if he discovers the defect within three days and wishes to return the slave, then this is permissible; after three days, he cannot return him. However, both narrations mentioned in this chapter are weak.

Morally, it is the ethical duty of every seller not to conceal the defect of a slave or animal, but rather to disclose it.

And if the buyer, upon discovering a defect, wishes to return the slave or animal, then the seller should accept its return.
