1؎: Truthfulness and trustworthiness in trade is a very difficult task; most traders lie and engage in usurious transactions. Therefore, if a trader is truthful, trustworthy, God-fearing, and pious, he will attain the rank of the martyrs. This is because, after his life, a person holds his wealth most dear—indeed, some even sacrifice their lives for wealth. Just as a martyr sacrifices his life in the path of Allah, similarly, a pious trader spends his wealth in the way of Allah and does not covet what is unlawful.

Commentary: This hadith is narrated in Jami' al-Tirmidhi from Abu Sa'id (radi Allahu anhu). Imam Tirmidhi has classified this hadith as hasan. (Jami' al-Tirmidhi, al-Buyu', Chapter: What Has Been Reported Regarding Traders, Hadith: 1209) Although this narration is weak, nevertheless, engaging in trade with trustworthiness, honesty, and truthfulness is a highly virtuous act and a great source of blessing.
