* ‘Asim ibn Abi al-Najud:
He was born in Kufa during the caliphate of Mu‘awiyah radi Allahu anhu.
He studied the Noble Qur’an under ‘Ali ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and Zur ibn Hubaysh, acquired knowledge from the senior Tabi‘in, and after his esteemed teacher ‘Ali ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, he took on the responsibility of teaching the Noble Qur’an.
During this period, great reciters such as Abu Bakr, Hafs ibn Sulayman, and Mufaddal ibn Muhammad learned Qur’anic recitation (qira’ah) from him.
He was extremely melodious-voiced, a reciter of the Qur’an, and a devout worshipper who performed much prayer.
Often, he would leave his house for some need, but upon reaching near the mosque, he would enter the mosque to perform voluntary prayers (nafl), saying:
“Needs will continue to be fulfilled; let us first perform the prayer.”
He is counted among the famous and well-known reciters of the seven canonical readings (qira’at sab‘ah).
He passed away in the year 128 AH.
