Benefit:
The meaning of the statement of Abdullah ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) is that in this situation, expiation (kaffarah) must be given.
In Sahih al-Bukhari, this same hadith is narrated in these words:
It is narrated from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah) that Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) said regarding making something unlawful (haram):
“He should give expiation (kaffarah).”
Then Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) recited this verse:
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Tafsir, Surah al-Tahrim, Chapter:
“O Prophet, why do you prohibit what Allah has made lawful for you,” Hadith: 4911)
