´It was narrated from 'Urwah bin Zubair, that 'Aishah said:` "Blessed is the One Whose hearing encompasses all things. I heard some of the words of Khawlah bint Tha'labah, but some of her words were not clear to me, when she complained to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about her husband, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, (ﷺ) he has consumed my youth and I split my belly for him (i.e., bore him many children), but when I grew old and could no longer bear children he declared Zihar upon me; O Allah, I complain to You.' She continued to complain until Jibra'il brought down these Verses: 'Indeed Allah has heard the statement of she who pleads with you (O Muhammad) concerning her husband, and complains to Allah" (58:1)

Benefits and Issues:

Allah, the Exalted, is characterized by the attribute of hearing, and His hearing is not limited like that of the servants, rather it is unlimited.

Khawlah radi Allahu anha mentioned her old age because if she had been young, it would have been easy for her to contract another marriage; someone or the other, considering her youth or in hope of children, would have married her, and thus it would have been easier for her to take care of the children.

In times of hardship, one should supplicate only to Allah. Allah, the Exalted, is the One who resolves all difficulties.

The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam could not issue any legal ruling from his own desire; rather, he would act and have others act only upon the command that was revealed from Allah. Allah, the Exalted, said:
﴿ قُل ما يَكونُ لى أَن أُبَدِّلَهُ مِن تِلقائِ نَفسى إِن أَتَّبِعُ إِلّا ما يوحى إِلَىَّ إِنّى أَخافُ إِن عَصَيتُ رَبّى عَذابَ يَومٍ عَظيمٍ﴾ ()
“Say: It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed, if I were to disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a tremendous Day.” (Yunus: 10/15)
‘Say: It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed, if I were to disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a tremendous Day.’”
