Hadith 206

´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that:` The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever calls people to true guidance, will have a reward equal to that of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest. And whoever calls people to misguidance, will have a (burden of) sin equal to that of those who follow him, without that detracting from their sins in the slightest.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
The concept of inviting (to good) is generally understood to mean verbal invitation, although along with this there is also a silent invitation, as people often begin to do many things simply by observing others. Therefore, a person should be alert to what kind of role he is playing in his environment.
Is he accumulating good deeds for himself, or are the misdeeds of people being recorded in his account?
In this hadith, there is glad tidings for the people of virtue, and a severe warning for those who act badly and have bad character.

➋ Whoever invents an evil practice, sins will continue to be recorded in his book of deeds as long as people continue to act upon that evil.
➌ One should always remain engaged in ensuring that one's actions are in accordance with the Book and the Sunnah, and that they do not go against the Book and the Sunnah.
➍ It is necessary to avoid innovations (bid‘ah).
