Commentary:
(1)
From this hadith, the affirmation of Allah’s active attributes (sifat fi‘liyyah) is established, whose manifestation continues at all times.
(2)
Allah, the Exalted, did not become unconcerned with the creation after creating it, as some people think that all matters of the creation are in the hands of a few special righteous servants, and that Allah has given them authority to do as they wish. The reality is that all authority is in the hands of Allah alone:
﴿أَلَا لَهُ الْخَلْقُ وَالْأَمْرُ﴾ ()
“Behold! To Him belongs the creation and the command (and all authority is in His hands).”
(3)
Forgiveness of sins is also His exclusive attribute; in this matter, there is no intermediary between Allah and the servant. Some misguided people believe in intermediaries even here. According to the Christians, forgiveness of sins is the work of the priest or the pope; according to the Hindus, connection with the deity is not possible without the mediation of the Brahmin, and sins can only be forgiven through him. Whereas the Qur’an says:
﴿وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ﴾ ()
“Who can forgive sins except Allah?”
