Hadith 20

´It was narrated that Ali bin Abu Talib said :` "When I narrate a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), to you, then think of him as being the best, the most rightly guided and the one with the utmost Taqwa (piety, righteousness)"

Explanation & Benefits

(1)
The meaning of both aforementioned hadiths is that when an authentic hadith comes before us from which, apparently, an inappropriate meaning seems to be understood, then its explanation should be given in such a manner that the apparent objection no longer remains. This is because, at times, it is possible for a hadith to be understood in more than one way.
In such a case, that meaning will be correct which is supported by the Noble Qur’an and other authentic hadiths.

(2)
Just as in some verses of the Noble Qur’an, such matters are mentioned that are beyond human intellect (not contrary to intellect),
similarly, at times, such a matter may also be mentioned in a hadith.
In this situation, the correct approach is to have faith in the hadith and to say that its true meaning is known only to Allah as it truly is.
For example, the hadiths that describe the attributes of Allah or the conditions of the grave and the Barzakh (the intermediary realm).
This approach is the best and closest to guidance and piety.
