Benefits and Issues:
The last part of the chain of narration of this hadith is mentioned as follows:
(From Abdul Malik bin Al-Harith bin Hisham, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ---)
He narrated from Abdul Malik bin Harith bin Hisham, who narrated from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ...
...
On this, Al-Albani rahimahullah has given a note in Da‘eef Sunan Ibn Majah, the words of which are:
(And Abu Al-Malik is Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham Al-Makhzumi)
“Abdul Malik’s father is Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham Al-Makhzumi.”
Zuhair Shadish (the publisher of the book)
has written a footnote: (But what our teacher Nasiruddin has written is unclear to me, that Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith has two kunyahs:
Abu Al-Malik and Abu Bakr.)
“The statement written by Allamah Nasiruddin Al-Albani is not clear to me, that Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith has two kunyahs:
Abu Abdul Malik and Abu Bakr.” Then Mr. Shadish discussed this in detail and concluded:
“Perhaps this is a slip of the pen.
Wallahu a‘lam. In my view, Zuhair Shadish has misunderstood the words of Allamah Nasiruddin Al-Albani.
Al-Albani rahimahullah did not say that Abdur Rahman has two kunyahs, one of which is Abu Abdul Malik; rather, it is clearly stated that in the chain ‘Abdul Malik bin Al-Harith bin Hisham, from his father,’ one should not understand from this that Abdul Malik’s father is Harith bin Hisham, from whom he is narrating. Rather, it is Abdul Malik bin Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham.
And he narrates from his father, ‘Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham,’ and this Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman is not a Companion (Sahabi), but a Successor (Tabi‘i), who could not have been present at the time of the marriage of Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha. Therefore, this hadith is mursal.
Wallahu a‘lam.
